Our Story

Hello everyone. We are Lee and Debbie Williams and we love Andalusia and we especially love restoring old historic buildings. We saw a niche existed in our beautiful downtown area for a quality driven, quaint, high volume coffeehouse with an inviting atmosphere. And Debbie just happens to love all things COFFEE. So began our dreams of Blue Bird Coffee Company.

Blue Bird Coffee Company resides in the historic Payne building located at 200 South 3-Notch Street one block off the courthouse square in downtown Andalusia. This location was once home to the memorable Brunson Bakery where “Blue Bird Bread“ was their speciality and a local favorite. The oven exhaust vent still remains in the back wall and is original to the building. Hence the name ‘Blue Bird.’

We specialize in coffee and espresso drinks, teas, pastries, and other items that are local favorites. We are a small batch roaster also producing the freshest coffees available in our area. We roast select high quality green coffees sourced from reputable growers from around the world. Our fresh roasted coffee is also available for purchase in 12oz bags. Come enjoy the slow paced eclectic vibe reminiscent of ‘a time gone by.’ We hope Blue Bird Coffee Company will become a familiar feature of downtown Andalusia and a favorite gathering place for you, your family and friends. Debbie and Leanne will pull you a fresh shot of espresso and Lee would love to show you around. Saturdays are a family affair with the whole family pulling shots and enjoying our wonderful customers. The Roastery

Why Roast?

The secret to great coffee is freshly roasted beans. We wanted to bring to Andalusia the experience of a fresh roasted, small batch, speciality coffee. This allows us to provide our customers with the freshest, most delicious cup of coffee available in our area.

The ‘Bluebird’

The ‘Bluebird’ is an artisan roaster custom built for Blue Bird Coffee Company by US Roaster Corp in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It was built using old world design that utilizes modern technology. It roasts an average of 32 pounds of green coffee per hour and is fascinating to watch.

Sourcing

The supply of high quality green coffee is an important aspect of our business. Where coffee is grown plays a huge role in the way a coffee tastes. We give serious consideration to the regions our greens come from so we can provide our customers with an unique and delicious cup of coffee.

Roasting Process

Green coffee beans are placed into the ‘Bluebird’ steel rotating drum and taken to temperatures that are the peak of perfection with a desired color of roast. They are then dropped and cooled to stop the process. In a few short hours fresh roasted beans are ready to be ground and brewed.
